99 1.8T Gear Change Spinning whoooose Noise

Hello Chaps

Need some help...

Driving to and from work in my '99 1.8T I noticed under acceleration when I change gears (at the point when you push the clutch down) there is a noise which sounds like something not spinning freeley coming from underneath th car.  Its a kind of whoooooose noise but you can make out its something not spinning freely.  Anybody had a problems similar?

Just hope its not expensive :cry:.  I have noticed it doesn't happen when slowing down or or go down through the gears.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Describe "WHOOOOOOOSE"...Cos I had a "WHOOOOOSH" type noise on my 2000 1.8t while changing up thru the gears.Kinda like if u flap your finger in front of your mouth as you whistle.Anyway,took in into the stealers and it cost me £54.worn turbo valve or summink,cant quite remember but it was important it was fixed.. :huh: this was after 20,000 miles tho..cheers

Gulfstream11 u got the noise in one... thats exactly it. 

You think its a worn turbo valve? any chance could give me more info?

OK dude listen up..I took the car straight into the dealers and apparently it was £54 worth spending.So I suggest u get straight to it.The bumpf for my old Golf is around somewhere so I can't give you the exact terminology..

Sounds like a knackered dump valve.Replace with a standard item for £15 for vagparts.com. The noise is the air hitting the back of the standard dv that is not opening(knackered).Will wear out the turbo alot quicker.

went steelers and they charged me 60 squid to change the dump valve..... assholes

Its gone up £6 since I had mine done :huh:....So has the "WHOOOOOOOOOSE" gone now???  :smiley:
