Currently have 16inch TSR alloys with 195/45, did have 205/45s but they ended up rubbing when cornering hard, car has been lowered 30mm
I was thinking of putting 17inch alloys on but am worried about them rubbing. Am i correct in thinking that even if the the tire profile is less. i.e. 195/40 or 205/40 the overall diameter will still be greater than 16s with 195/45?

Does any body currently run 17's on a MK1 cabby that has been lowered?

I had to have the rear arch ground down to stop the 16s rubbing, they very occasionly still catch if i have a lot of weight in the back and it bottoms out.

17"s are too big on a mk1, stick with 16"s

You've answered your own question really as I'm not sure why you would want to increase the wheel size on a car that struggles to where 16" as is it.  To be honest in my opinion, MK1's are ruined by big wheels, Max size to get it low and still be a decent drive is 15". 17" will make it look like a rollerskate!

^^^^^ And that looks like a set of 16s and is the limit...  MK1's can roll on their original wheel size of 14" and still look great and will still drive superb.

15's are by far the best size for any mk1

Thanks for the advice, i will avoid 17s, will stick with 16s  or look at 15s if they will fit over the front brakes.
I have large disk conversion, so i dont think 15s will fit.
