First service - ECU update?
« on: 25 June 2011, 11:16 »
Just had the car serviced this morning and it has noticably more instantaneous grunt from 2500 - 4000 rpm. Would they have changed the map on the ECU?

I know when mine went in for some warranty work they updated the ECU with the latest version (visibly I now have gear change indicator in the dash but not sure what else it changed)

So you didn't have the digital gear indicator before then?

I asked the dealer about this when I had mine but they couldn't enable it. Someone else said they had theirs enabled after the dealer spoke with technical at Milton Keynes and they said there was an ecu software update for this. I shall have to get onto them again.

digital gear indicator

I had my first service in February and mine wasn't updated as far as I know, well the digital gear indicator still doesn't show?

Mines always had the gear indicator showing since pick up. It's the throttle response that's just changed

My GTI was serviced in late March but i have not noticed any change. Maybe theres a new ECU update since then  :undecided:
Mine always had the gearchange indicator as did the 09 GTI i went out in for a test drive in mid 2009 (I remember thinking oh just like the mk1)
I think the gear change indicator update thing was a GTD model year change iirc.

Mine just went in for a service and they didn't mention anything about ECU update. It was exactly a year old on the 25th June.

I hight doubt VW have adjusted your ECU to give you more power, adjust torque across the rev range of anything like that.
