In the future i plan to put PAS in my golf. Could I take it out of a 1.6 driver?  What parts are needed and what is involved in tranfering it into my 1.8 driver?

its not worth it you might as well replace the whole engine with one already on it!

yes it can be done and is not that hard a job to do, prob a few hundred in parts tho, and you dont need an engine change :huh: cos the pas isnt connected to the engine in a way that necessitates engine replacement

dont think you need to remove or lift it but might help with access as you need to remove the steering rack and replace it with a pas version plus youll need the belt, drive and resevoir probably something else i forgot then also the electrics need to be wired up. most expensive part is the steering rack seen them for about £110 on there own but if you got all the working parts in a 1.6 then its just a matter of swapping them over.

i got a 16v rack for £25 delivered to the Isle of Man so it aint that dear!!

all you need is
rack
belt
pump
resivior
pipes
pulleys

pipes are usually the most expensive bit to get

all bits could probably be had for £100 tops 2nd hand.

there is no electrics either associated with the PAS

tbph i dont have power steering and it doesnt bother me i can control my car  i think and i dont like power steering for how light it is, i mean dont get me wrong its a twit to park sometimes but rather have the control of feeling the wheels on the road than lighter steering

i crashed my corsa gsi the day i bought it and i still blame the power steering  :grin:

i have had loads of cars with power steering and in terms of feel the golf is the best and that includes new audi a3 fsi

anybody who drove my old 16v didnt even believe it had power steering!! they believe it now though when drivin my current one which aint got any! one mate actually thought the rack was partially seized
