Out with a Golf In with a...Golf
« on: 17 June 2011, 07:38 »
I was finally freed from my crash repaired Golf and decided on replacement. The contenders were – GTI, Golf R, S3, 135i, RS3. And the winner is....

Golf R

I tested one yesterday with ACC and 19” wheels. It was heavy but pleasant. Actually with ACC in comfort the ride was better than on my 18” GTI in Comfort. Steering was heavier than on GTI and in Sport almost too heavy – I would say track mode only. It had 4000 miles on the clock and not a single rattle in the cabin.  DSG much the same as on GTI, except that in D it tries to get into a higher gears earlier. Overall very impressed.

I don’t expect any significant discounts and will be buying with cash so the only factor is the waiting time. I was told 4-6 months. Will check with other dealers but I guess that’s what is to be expected.

Meanwhile I’m on the hunt for a £300 runner:) Needs to work until December.
Golf GTI VI DSG - died on the road, resurrected, came back as zombi, sold
R - rising blue, 5-door, DSG, ACC, something something...

Very nice mate, if i were changing now i think the R would win it for me too.

Hopefully the wait won't be too long.

Congratulations Radek. Now you can whizz away on the accident spot in the wet!
I am seriously also considering selling my beloved GTI and getting a used R. Not because I am unhappy with it, far from it, but because it has been targeted twice in two months and has had the roof damaged.
If or when I do, I'll get a Shadow Blue R, i.e. if I can find one.

They're still £30k for a used one, which is far too much money imo (For me anyway)

So true! The one I drove yesterday was 37.500! A brand new will be that price... But it's a sort of "Buy now" and pay more or wait and pay less.

Shadow blue or rising blue? That is the key question
