I still think the 150 is the one to go for, having recently changed my cams and tappets. Its faster and better specced basically! It hangs onto the power better than the 130 through the rev range too.

Corin, there's nothing wrong with the cams as such, its the tappets that are too soft and become dished, causing the cam to wear unevenly. Makes no odds really as it all needs changing if wear is present :sick:

Something to look out for when buying a pd is the type of servicing its had, i would avoid ones that have had the longlife services by vw! Mine (150) had normal intervals, is on 120k and the tappets weren't that bad, wear was evident on the outer ones but a long way off failing like Steve's did in the pictures. Being a tinkerer I had to change the bits anyway  :laugh:

so if i get a pd i need to make sure its had alot of oil changes or am i better of getting one of the lower bhp engines for reliblity

I have a 2007 sharan pd 115, does this suffer from problems as well, its on long life service.

Not sure, but longlife servicing is a bad idea anyway!

It is on long life service, its only done 25k miles. It doesn't get a lot of miles put on it.

is it only the pd engines that suffer with the cams  or is it just the vw engine in general
