Interesting,

MK6 = 1318kg
MK5 = 1328kg

My reason would be to improve the official fuel economy figures.

That's really surprised me, thought it was much heavier than that, good news :cool:

Not sure where you are getting your figures from but the VW brochures I have for unladen weight:

Dont have anything for MK5 GTI but,

MK5 ED30 - 1357
MK6 GTI - 1393
MK6 ED35 - 1401

MK6 is heavier than the MK5 when comparing ED30-ED35
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

my brochure says 1318kg for a 3 door and around +30kg for 5 door +30kg for dsg

there can't be much difference between a mk5 and mk6 weight, its more or less the same car and if anything the mk6 is more plasticy and has a lighter engine.

Tyre pressures go up again with 19's from memory are 39/41psi for ED35

for what it's worth I run anything from 32 to 38 psi all around depending on how I'm feeling, I find the lower pressures better for overall grip
