Oil Pressure Sensor Potential Leak?
« on: 09 June 2011, 18:57 »
thought i was leaving oil drips every where,   thought it was rocker cover gasket, as some slight oil along front edge and down right side, so changed it the other day, seems dryer now, around the top, but looked today and its quite bad still,

the sensor with the rubber boot on it, a single spade connector, that rubber boot is full of oil! i emptied it the other day, and i just squeezed it and loads more came out, guessing it shouldnt be full of oil,, is it the oil pressure sensor? is it the likely suspect, and are they easy to change?

cheers

yes its the oil pressure sensor, its a very common cause of oil leaks, and its very easy to change. It just unscrews and new one screws back in. There are a fair few different ones though so may be worth taking it in with you to compare when you get the new one
20vt conversion, sig pic coming soon!

Changed one on mine a few months back. They are colour coded, but the aftermarket ones are different colours!
Theres some way to check them up online by googling the part numbers or somehting...
Got mine from a local motor factors the guy game me all 3 and I brought back the two wrong ones the next day

5 min job
€5 for the sensor

i think mine is brown, so think I'll nip to tps and see what they got, don't wanna really start taking it apart in the carpark so may just buy em all and return unused ones :) then start clearing the mess up! :(

Cheers fellers! As always extremely helpful!

Now if i could find someone to sponsor me to "do a kells conversion" on my car that would be great!

1.8t conversion can be done for around £3000 mine cost me just under that, had some bargains but also paid over the odds for some parts as well and did all the work myself.

Its a bit more involved than changing the oil pressure sensor though

regarding your sensor, mine was brown on the old 8v lump, the one that i got to replace it was blue, dunno if that helps you

my conversion was more than 3k to the standard i did it, the engine i used was a S3 one and these fetch a premium, if you went normal 20vt u could do it for 2.5k ish

Haha, yeah I know, but if I got given the money I'd employ my dad to help me do it, lol

Hi mate, cheers for that! There is blue and White to choose,  I've just been tps but as there was 2 to choose from I said can I bring one back, and he said no! So have to remove old one and check it then go back, tried to undo it in carpark but nice n tight and couldn't get it with swan neck pliers, have to get a spanner on it, haha

Its amaIng how much oil leaks from it, must be totally f?cked, so have to get on it later when rain stops...
