Engine Conversion Queries ;)
« on: 31 May 2011, 18:22 »
Riiiight,

I decided I'm going to do a vr6 conversion which was discussed on the other post! (nice and lengthly! haha) butttt, I'm wondering now about the 1.8 turbo engine, however I just read that the 1.8 is 180bhp and the vr6 is 174bhp?! Doesn't seem that mcuh of a difference for what seems more work? But I don't know if I've read something wrong..?

Also, what other engines should I look at and what other cars can I get these engines out of other than golfs?

Sorry to be a bother!

Kells is putting an s3 engine in his  the BAM 1.8ts are 225 bhp but are also pretty expensive! I just have the 150bhp AUM in mine but it feels much quicker than a vr6, and has torque that lasts forever

the 1.8t will also use MUCH less petrol than the vr6, and although I know little about vr6 engines I'd imagine theres more you can do to a 1.8t tuning wise?
20vt conversion, sig pic coming soon!

yeah that's what my partner said but i can't seem to find a 1.8t for around the price i was gonna pay for the vr6 :(

Get yourself an AUM lump and a KO3s turbo add an FMIC, exhaust and a remap and you'll have 215bhp+ and will still get 35mpg. Compared to the 170bhp and 20mpg from a VR it's win win

You will need a mk4 donor car

Can get about 260bhp from a ko4 turbo too. much easier to get power from a 1.8t, but and a every big but is, fit a turbo to a vr6 and you can reach 500bhp

I think for that kinda power you would need a completely rebuilt vr engine low comp pistons etc then a good turbo kit and stand alone management an a good gearbox with LSD. I would guess around 6-10k depending on quality it's not something you want to cut corners with
