Very Worried over A4

Hi Guys

Ok, bit of a bad day really. My oil light kept intermittently coming on whilst driving today,( it was a long drive).

I pulled over a few times to check the oil and the oil level was fine. The car drove smooth as a whistle so i figured it may be a sensor problem.

Yet around 10 minutes from the end of my journey the car started to sound like a diesel, so i immediately pulled over at a garage. He said to me that it was my oil pump. The engine sounds like it has no oil pressure so the tappets are making a racket.

I turned the engine off, and while talking for 5 minutes, i left and turned it back in. It sounded fine again, yet the oil light still came on.

I am going to book it in for a new oil pump, but what is the normal cost for this including fitting? Also, I have read many horror stories about the engine being nakered, but im hoping i caught it in time, as the engine still feels smooth?

The Car is an Audi 1.8T sport (190bhp)

Same as my mates passat. Expect a big bill for a new oil pump,

I looked around and the common price seems to be around £150 the pump?

Obviously not labout, do you know how much the job on the passatt cost?

Your oil pick up pipe is blocked, the noise that you hear is the Timing chain tensioner "Dieseling" this noise is caused by insufficient oil flow, and will eventually screw the seals within it, and make that noise all the time
Sump should be removed, and a new oil pump fitted as a matter of course, you could probably get away with just cleaning the pick up pipe, but for what it is, just fit a pump!
Any further damage to the TCT is expensive! around £450 just for the Audi only part!
Get it sorted ASAP

About £800 as the engine needed to come out apparently

i know on the 'ssats you have to drop/lower the subframe to get the sump off .

 nut sure if its the same on the audi engine set up/layout

This is a VERY common problem, and is normally associated with cars that have gone for extended periods without an oil change!!
Job should take around 4hrs as the suspension Xmember has to be dropped on an A4..
I would have thought around £220/250ish plus VAT for the job
EDIT...  The oil pump that I fitted to my Audi was supplied by GSF, and went on to do another 90k and still going strong.. cost was around £45ish

I just had the oil pump replaced on my 1.8t passat last month. the pump cost £50 from ebay.de and labour was about £100 (mates rates though so i would expect double that normally?).
The subframe needed lowering to get to the bolts on my sump and I guess the A4 will be the same

(btw my pick up was truly gunked with crap but the pump is fine...I had already bought one otherwise a clean out would of worked fine)
