Drive Shaft Removal

Guys,

When yo remove your drive shafts do they normally just pull out with some ease once the nut has been taken off?

Mine seem to be well in there and dont want to budge! Given it a few knocks with a hammer through the hub but its just not moving!

On my mk4 if this is any help.. once removed about 10 bolts from gearbox bit and once the hub bit is loosened off it pulled right out. Had to pull the hub out towards ya though. Dont know how thats done as my mate did mines but u removed a couple of things and ur hub moves out.

As far as I am aware (havent done mine yet) you have to remove the 6iirc bolts of the inner CV

on my mk2.. i just remove big hub nut.. removed inner cv bolts.. undone ball joint bolts.. pulled hub off the driveshaft.. and just slid it out  :smiley:

Inner cv is completly loose - there is not engine or gearbox in the bay!

I've undone the cv nut inside the hub, but the thing is in there rock solid........

Certainly on 16V Golf3 and SEATs with this motor there often seems to have been some sort of sealant used to glue the damned CVs in there.

DannyP and I have destroyed a couple of CV joints trying to get the bast*rds out with a seldgehammer.

Loosen the nut, so it preserves the end of the thread and clout the f*cker f*cking hard.

On mk3's with plus suspension, loctite was put on the threads from factory.
I have done the job on a couple of mk3's, i needed a puller. Don't hit too hard, you'll just do more damage.

Hmmmm.... Ive given it a few smacks, but as above, i didnt want to knacker the end of the drive shaft where the nut is supposed to screw on.

Surley im more likley to crack the nut by giving it a whack with it still on?
