mk4 gti head unit

Hi all,i have a mk4 gti with the cd unit at the top and the tape player beneath it i have a new head unit which i want to put in ,but how do i take out existing without damaging surround?

any help would be much appreciated.

Go get yourself some stereo pins from halfords or local car shop.

hi sound for that mate i sussed it any way,also connected my new head unit luckily the same connectors however afteet installed worked brilliantly went to go out of the car and lock her up,but key fob didnt work.then the alarm wouldnt stop going off,so i re connected standard head unit and then it all worked again key fob etc. so how would i stop it from messing the alarm up? do i have to wire it up to my new headunit/ any ideas would but much appreciated.

Strange that...?

I know with some stereos you swap the red and yellow cables before connecting - but this is only because as soon as you turn the car off the stereo memory will always get wiped!

The connectors have no link to the keyfob/alarm.

yeh i know dont know what to do im in coventry mate near you is there anywhere you reccomend me taking my car to so they can have alook?

I have always used screwdrivers/knives , anything I can get my hands on lol , never had a problem. 2 flat knives down the sides usually works a charm

I think you may have the switched live connected up wrong, see my old post here (Pg3)
