Vxr would leave most vws on the road...fast cars...the badge has a poor rep over the years but seem to be getting their act together now

From a standing start (on a private track) I kept up with an astra vxr. I have a DSG and his was a manual. I didn't beat it as such but neither did the VXR "leave me on the road"

They are quick cars but so are the modern GTi's.

I have not had a vxr beat me as yet... in fact the last one i went passed i even managed to find time to wave and see the passenger laughing at his mate driving

couple of facts;

an astra vxr is more powerful than a new gti and is lighter, also better looking.


as for the new R the focus rs is quicker, lighter and better looking.


all in all the new golfs are over priced and boring.

please dont confuse these facts with me defending vxr's as i own one or that im jeaolous of the new golfs as this is not the case, I am mearly stating motoring facts that MANY snobs(particularly on this site) overlook and it annoys me

Oh no you didn't... have you seen cars race on a track and on the street?

A Ford RS and VXR both mapped could not keep up with a Leon Cupra R mk2 remapped (or s3, same sh!t under the bonnet)... The RS is over rated and the figures ford claim have been "slightly" off.

The RS and the VXR struggles against a stock Leon Cupra R...

I don't know where you get your figures from or your claims but they are a bit far fetched...

Congrats Chuff,

It's the nonsense that people come out with. If a car is faster I will admit to it, hell I even own a slow mk4 1.8T, its not just about bhp, take torque into account and how the power is delivered and distributed, so you cannot just rely on what Mr. Sales man has told you about how awesome the VXR is. The VXR is by no means fun or fast from my experience (it is fast but not in comparison to other cars on the market).

Just wish I had recordings at what a VXR did to my mk4 and what a mk2 Leon Cupra R did to my golf in terms off getting away in the tunnel at QE2, both remapped and then what the 2.0T Cupra did to the VXR 

This can go on all day, go outside, find a 2.0T S3 or Cupra and watch how it will embarrass the VXR... as you seem not to believe it for some strange reason... I've been surprised by what some cars can do, like a banged up corsa with a red top engine, but plain figures mean nothing like what you quoted.
