Has my clutch gone???

Mk3 golf GTi ABF

When engine is off:   I CAN change gear with gear stick, I can change gear with clutch pressed down.

When engine is on:   When i press clutch pedal down, I cant get a gear. If i force it, it clonks in a gear and make a juddering sound (sounds awefull).

When car is turned off, i put the car in gear with the clutch pedal down, then i start the car and its wont start, it turnes over a few times, like i havent got my foot on the clutch.

Clutch pedal has stiffness to it like it has had since owning the car.?

Can anyone diagnoise this problem, any more info let me no, and i will provide it.

Yep sounds like the clutch has gone, might be worth bleeding it 1st.

Clutch was fine up untill yesterday, no slipping or anything. milage is 184k I have full service history up till 130k , and personall history up untill 174k, no mention of the clutch being changed in there. Car has been looked after, all vw parts. I only presume it was a company car in its earlyer days and did alot of motorway miles in which i belive a clutch can last along time. So could be original in there. But like i said, I have had no signs of the clutch wearing out/slipping...

What is the easiest way to do this. I done two years at college studys plumbing, so i have basic knoledge on bleeding pipes but i supose its different in the car world??

Bleeding it isn't complex, get a hose on the bleed nipple, with a jar on the end of it, and make sure there is plenty of fluid in the reservoir. now open the bleed nipple as a glamorous assistant pushes the pedal down. Do bubbles come out? If they do keep going until they don't. If they don't clear then the seal in the master or slave cylinder is gone. If there aren't any and you just get clear fluid your clutch may be shot.

Well we bled the clutch today, At first some air was coming on, then after about 5 cycles of . Undoing nipple/ Footdown on clutch/ Close nipple clutch up. The air stopped coming out, then did another 5 and was just pure fluid coming out. Is this a significant amount of times to bleed a clutch? If so i take it i can rule that out, and it must just be a f**ked clutch?
