Turned out to be a loose earth at the gearbox end. Give all earths a clean

i had the same sort of problem turned out to be the breather it was just hunting for air and then staying at constant rev's like this might be worth a check dont take my word for it

air breather near the throttle body make sure thats firmly in cos mine was leaking and it just kept hunting for air and idleing at 2000

all me breathers are tight :O no air leak but the alternator sound like it sucking air in or the belts sound like that :O
