rca splitter
« on: 12 May 2011, 10:35 »
On my headunit I only have 1 sub output so obviously need a splitter. Had a look around but the only splitter I found was 1 female - 2 male (I think that's the right way around) would that be ok?
I.E should the splitter come out of the head unit then the two rca cables plugged into this going to the amp. Or should I have 1 rca cable coming out of the head unit and going to the splitter which goes into the amp? Cheers.

What headunit is it? Not common to have a male output on a headunit - usually female.  In which case you would need a single male going to two females as the RCA's from the amp will be male.

I'm not sure which ones male and female. Basically the rca cables are the standard rca cables (with the little point in the centre of the conector) and the subout is the oposite of this. There both normal. However most units come with a place to plug both rca cables, this headunit however doesent, therefore Ill need a splitter. I bought one, went to plug it into my head unit but realised the suboutput and the splitter were the same kind of head. Therefore I couldn't plug the 'Y' splitter into the head unit. However thinking about it. I could plug the 'Y' splitter into the amp. Would it be ok to run 1 rca cable from my headunit sub out to the 'Y'splitter and have the y spliter going into the amp?

Not sure if I've explained this well (proberbly not :D)

Yes that's fine. Sub output is mono hence only 1 connector.
