Unless you're going to be doing a bit of track work I'd just go for stage 1 software and put the extra money towards your summer holiday.
If you want to change the look of the exhaust get some good quality trims. A cat back will give you next to no extra power and the intake won't show much benefit on a road car unless you go stage 2 with added downpipe and sports cat mods.

A stage 1 map (software only) won't get undue attention from a service department either, intakes and exhausts are going to raise eyebrows.

The 300 lb ft of torque the stage 1 software will give you (approx) will be very apparent compared to the rather flat feeling standard power, the bit extra you will get by adding an intake and cat back won't really be noticed unless maybe you're driving balls out on a track (which will mean your suspension and brakes will also need uprating ASAP to make good use of it).
Stage 2 with sport cat and full TBE will be better than a stage 1 for sure, but by this time you're really into the diminishing returns of BHP per £££.
Chassis first, power second.

Well, you asked for views.

Let's see this warranty please?

http://www.volkswagenracing.co.uk/Golf%206%20Pages/Golf%206%20PowerUpgrades.html

"So confident are we, that all Stage 1 Power Upgrades fitted to vehicles still under manufacturer's warranty will be covered under the VWR warranty - giving you complete peace of mind.  Note, this only applies to UK customers"

Jim

Thanks Jim, I was looking for a full warranty policy really so I've contacted vwr for a copy of it to see how OEM style it is for you.

I'll let you know the outcome

Sorry to rain on this parade, but it is all pretty
pointless and a complete  waste of money unless you can use it on a track at least once a week.

Ah, but he might be lucky enough to live in the countryside. Out here, if you avoid the rush 10 minutes that the unfortunate people that have to commute cause, most journeys can be pretty enjoyable.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Emulate Mr.P and get a track focused car. He saw the light, eventually.

Sorry but I don't agree with this comment one bit, that's the same argument as the one I hear all the time - why get a car that car can do 150mph when the speed limit is 70mph.

Jim

Me neither...
you can use the extra grunt of a remap every day...not just on a racetrack.

As for VWR parts...certain dealers seem happy to honour the warranty despite the VWR parts.
My dealer fitted my VWR springs pre-delivery and are happy to offer a full suspension warranty, so long as the springs themselves are covered by VWR.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

I think that would be down to how nice your dealer is - as with anything detectable and aftermarket

Taken from VWR's web:

 ►Is manufacturer's warranty affected?

Yes, for those aspects of the engine and drivetrain that the manufacturer can prove were affected by any upgrade, any warranty claim will be rejected.  All other aspects of the vehicle’s warranty should remain unaffected.   Any parts from our range that are faulty or incorrectly installed will be replaced by us.  Please note that this range of parts is intended for use within the United Kingdom, if you intend to use the car elsewhere it is your responsibility to establish the situation with regard to your manufacturer/other warranty.

My point here is to ensure that if your buying it for the warranty that the said warranty is worth more than the paper it's written on as they oftern are not

Option 1 - VWR Stage 1 - £1,600

  • 250hp ECU Mod (REVO Code)
  • VWR Rear Exhaust
  • VWR Panel Filter

I'm learning here so bear with me, your saying the VWR map is written by REVO not Superchips or does REVO Code mean something else?

I assumed Superchips wrote their software as its all over their race vehicles?  :undecided:

Hi Doc, REVO did the remap for the MK6, they use Superchips for everything else.

Jim

Erm...no.
It's Superchips..they use a bluefin to install the maps...although I did hear they (VWR) were also going to offer REVO maps.
Certainly the early VWR maps are Superchips, in Stage 1 and Stage 2 trim.

Sorry but but I spoke to VWR two weeks ago and they told me the current Stage 1 map for the MK6 is supplied by REVO.  I also spoke with the REVO Sales Manager last week and he confirmed this.
