Water marks - paint reaction?

Posting this on behalf of a mate.

Basically he has a dark blue (Indigo blue I think) mk4 Golf. The paint was quite faded from UV damage and needed a good buff to get it up to scratch. He cut the paint back to a decent shine, polished it, added 3 coats of Jetseal and 3 coats of Collinite 476. Looked great however a few days later after some tremendous rain storms the paint has water marks all over it as it's almost as though he's back to square one 

I'll get some pics tomorrow but what is going on? Any advice appreciated.

water spotting is more apparent on non metalics non clearcoat finishes, no way of eliminating it unless you dry the car after it rains every time. wash the car,dry it then go over with some qd or re-wax if you have time. also depending on how bad they are they might need a lite hand polish to remove them.

3 layers of 109 and 476 is not needed mate, 2 will be more sufficient

Mmmmmm think thats going to be a strip back and start again job mate thats some serious water marks there but id concentrate on getting the paint spot on first before you waste anymore sealant and wax, the top of that drivers wing looks like the paints failed.

Ouch not looking forward to telling him that. Although the paint wasn't spotless it was back to a reasonable standard when he polished it. It looks a million times better than it did before. I don't really get how the water is managing to get through the layers of protection on the top?

Sorry to bump but a respray going to be the only way to stop it then?

without seeing the top of that wing close up its hard to give an accurate diagnosis but the random direction of the scratches at the top of the wing look suspect to me and they are quite apparent which could mean they are either down to the primer or there quite deep and theres still wax or polish residue in them.
, if you can sort a few close up shots that would be cool if not id take it to a proffesional sprayer and get there opinion on it but my hunch is the paint is failing on the top of that wing due to deep scratches and the previous oxydation.

the rear bumper definatly needs a respray due to the cracked paint.

you can always garrenty getting the right advice on here    after reading the first post, i was going to reply with just merely wipe the water marks off with a quick detailer, but after looking at the pictures, its obviously something more where it looks like the water has sunk into the protection, which with 6 possible layers, how has it done this?

guys with more knowledge of this will have a better clue?!
