Broken wing mirror
« on: 08 May 2011, 09:43 »
Woke up this morning only to find that some scumbag has driven into my wing mirror overnight and smashed it to smithereens .

Guess it will be an expensive trip to the dealership to have a new one fitted, anyone any idea on the cost of these things?

I feel pretty angry about it as I've parked on the street for the last 9 years with no damage whatsoever, plus it is the widest part of the road where I park so am at a bit of a loss to see how they've done it.

At least the paintwork has not been damaged so looks like just a new mirror housing really.

Gizzy - sorry to hear this :( - probably some idiot not concentrating. If its just the housing they are not very expensive but will need colour coding.

If it's the whole mirror then they're £££s

Does it all work ok?

Had similar happen to mine when a guy on a motor bike caught mine.

A new housing is approx £20-30 (can't remember)..... and the respray cost was £40.

So all in all expect to pay £70 to £80.

Annoying but as least its just your mirror and only the housing thats damaged.

£180-00 for a just the mirror housing? You must mean the complete wing mirror?

Actually it is the whole thing, the glass was lying in the road like a piece of crazy paving, the bottom piece with the indicator section was hanging by wires and the black top piece was lying beside the curb.

It does not work at all and is therefore going to be a full repair job, so looks like we're talking £££.

Thanks for your sympathies, this kind of thing really pisses me off.

Probably some pissed idiot hit it.
Makes ya mad.

Maybe it's time to get electric folding mirrors fitted Amanda seeing as you've got to replace one anyway.

Amanda, bad morning. Really sorry to hear this and the fix will cost. Careless, stupid, idiotic prat to have done this. Makes me so angry. It's such a sickening feeling when one discovers this.
I wonder if you can retro-fit folding mirrors? Maybe PM Darren for his advice.
It is so inconvenient to drive with a door mirror missing so take extra care when you drive.
One small point to remember is that if one does not have folding door mirrors, it is probably prudent to park the car in such a way that traffic on the exposed mirror side is oncoming so that the door mirror can flip inwards when hit! A bit of a pain I know as this is not always convenient.
Hope it gets fixed soon and all the best.

Is that £180 all in, painting etc?

I've dropped a PM to Darren to see how easy a retro fit of the folding mirrors would be, would probably be a useful addiition.
