Bought my first golf mk 4 gti 2.0 about a month ago, thought it was the bees knees. Only to find out after a couple of weeks that gearbox is fooked!!
Common problem, drive shaft ceased, rivot popped out causing it to tear through bell housing.
Car bin taken to garage for repairs and funnily enough as i guessed, they got back with an expensive quote.
I've bin quoted £1200 for repairs, thought it was for a new gearbox but wasnt was a recon!!!
Not sure wot it usually costs for a gearbox repair but ive had a look online a recon costs around £300 on average from ve breakers in my area, there it seems they're charging £800 - £900 for labour charges!!! Thought it was abit expensive for a days work!!
Could do repairs myself but no equipment and nowhere to carry out work as i park in street outside my house. Hence reason i took it to garage..
Just wanted to know whether this price is about right or should i do a runner and find somone to do it abit cheaper!!
Need help asap please, need my baby back!!!!!!
