The "Genuine" Mk2 front wings thread...
« on: 06 May 2011, 19:17 »
So, yesterday I ordered an O/S front wing for a Mk2, while I was at it, I asked parts guy, what the stock situation was like for front wings, he checked and replied that there were around 5 of each side available... good news! and I would get mine the following morning, even better..
The wing arrived as promised, but interestingly the wing looked to be in a shinier primer, that they used to come in, wing was stamped with the usual VW/Audi logo, as it should be, and all the stickers on it were all in the latest VW font.
The wing itself, has a few production marks, that you would associate with very worn tooling, and the closing panel attached to the rear of the wing looked like it had been spot welded by hand, rather than machine, this is a good thing as that panel on earlier pressings was in the wrong place, and caused problems when fitting,  achieving a correct door gap, the wing will still need a fair amount of work, to suit my needs, but is perfectly adequate to put straight into service..
I'm sure this wing is new, new stock, and not new, old stock, which means that it looks like VW are still producing these parts...
So absolutely no excuse to fit poor quality, pattern parts, and as long as there is a demand for these panels, hopefully VW will carry on making them

just under a hundred for both or each?

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

I hope they continue selling old parts.

Strictly genuine panels and genuine bumpers ftw

Thom

two thirds of what I bought my beater for

But good to know if I ever have a car that it's worthwhile putting OEM ones on
