There is an article In this months golf+ that says vw heritage/bigboys toys have recently done a deal with vw Wolfsburg which enables them access to the giant warehouse vw have FULL of genuine parts and it states that also in this warehouse is all of the original tooling which they also now have access to
This is surley evidence that vw is committed to keeping our mk1-mk2's etc alive and kicking 
If its true, then that is fantastic news, cant comment on the Golf+ article, though I'll try to get a copy tomorrow
One of the reasons that I started this thread, was because VW are very aware of how important their older products are to people, and probably at the time of mk2 being dropped from production, weren't aware, like any of us, that the water cooled cars, would in the future, have such a wide following, not just in the UK, or Europe, but worldwide.
