Hi all,

I have been following the forum for some time and finally took hold of my GTi as the weekend. Alas, mortgage and kids forced me down the used route but I am more than happy. In my car gleaning regime I like to buff and polishe everything to keep it looking a1 but I am struggling to bring the chrome exhaust pipes back to their former shiny condition. Both have  what seems like a carbon deposit film encrusted on them so they essentially appear black. No amount of scrubbing or reasonable application of chrome cleaner\brasso is shifting it. I would appreciate if any of you folks have found the same issue or can recommend some sort of off the shelf cutting agent to address.

Cheers

Lee

...........alloy wheel cleaner & oven cleaner also helps shift the baked on deposits.

Sounds like you've tried everything that would normally work; so get some Gunk engine cleaner, that will remove it very easily, then polish them with Brasso or similar.
Obviously the previous owner wasn't too bothered about appearances.
