Thank you for your support Asker but alas no.
On this occasion I have no idea whether the car has slight clutch slip or a slight hesitation very briefly under heavy load in certain gears at certain revs.
I don't use the car often enough to familiarise myself with exactly when it occurs and am too busy doing stuff to the house at the moment to take the car out and investigate properly, so I can genuinely sit here and look stupid and ignorant!
I've had modified TDIs in the past which have had genuine clutch slip at peak torque in the higher gears. Easily corrected with a tweak of the map to smooth the torque out and lower the peak figure (basically they wind back the fuelling and boost at certain revs). No new clutch needed.
I've had turbo petrols in the past which have had hesitations, possibly map related or maybe good old diverter valve leaks or stutters. Again, easily cured.
This one is a mystery though as it only happens occasionally when I'm overtaking. Thus the car is accelerating quickly, gear change, quick stutter and revs normally again.
I'm concentrating 100% on the road conditions at the time and not sat looking lazily at the rev counter to see if the revs actually briefly stall (REVO hesitation) or the speedo briefly stalls and the revs rise (clutch slip). By the time my eyes have moved from scanning the road conditions to the rev counter it's returned to normal and all hell has broken loose at the front wheels, torque steer has started and 100% concentration is needed for the job in hand again. Seconds later I'm at a legal cruising speed, the moment has passed and thus put to the back of my mind again as I concentrate on my driving. So no, I don't know whether it is one or the other problem. I'll investigate it when I have the time and motivation. It's not dangerous so low priority. Could even be a leaking DV under full boost.
When the car was rolling roaded 18 months ago it was putting out almost exactly 300 lb ft on TSRs rollers.
