1.6 to 1.8gti 8v conversion help
« on: 03 May 2011, 13:49 »
Hi,
i have myself a 1990 1.6 driver and the engine is on its way out, picked myself up a digifant 1.8gti 8v engine for a bargain of a 100 from my friends mk2, i was just wondering if its a straight swap (looks it) and if id need the ecu and loom to wire the gti engine up or will my loom do the trick?
thanks

If they are vented they will be fine, just make sure they all work ok.

If the 8v is digi then 16v looms wrong as there all k-jets. Best bet is find someone who's breaking a 1.8 gti and get all the stuff of them. Make sure its the right wiring. Pre or post 90. Pre 90 is 2pin clocks and post 90 is single clocks.
