do you mean they can have a modded camshaft ??

No.  IIRC there's a control camshaft.

Let's just say from what I hear there are some engines created a lot more equal than others.

rules on modifying engines don't stop them being modifyed.  they just make it more expensive.

if your not allowed to remove metal from pistons to balance them you just collect LOTS of pistons ane weigh them the find an optimal combonation,  same goes for con rods.

tricks can be done to the metering heads to make them more optimal.

cylinder heads may have there ports sand blasted to clean them up

valve guides may have a littel trimming done before there fitted.

hell people may even bother to decode the prossessor in the ecu to adjust things like spark advance and rev limiter

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

yer sorry thats what i mean the control camshaft not a modded one  :nerd:

Danny that all seems a bit OTT for in essence not a lot of gain in my eyes is it worth going to them extremes of doing all that to the processor etc ??

Surely the golf3 series will just end up exactly the same people pushing the limits of what your allowed to do.. they already have control Dampers.. exhaust.. rollcage.. tyres.. 8v allowed 4 branch manifold and uprated control camshaft..
Mk4 Golf GTI anniversary and mk6 golf tdi :)

Identical cars, competing in a pack.  Who's going to win?  How much advantage do you need?

Of course, but they've had far fewer seasons of 'honing'.

There's 2 MKII champs this year, can't remember the name of the other series but I went to watch a round at Castle Combe. It was set up as the original series was getting to intense for some. Was a small grid of 10ish cars at Combe but they're expecting 20+ at the next round.

Sounds about right - it did sound like budgets were starting to escalate.

Just seen this - shows how competitive and close the racing is.
