GolfGTI Championship
« on: 02 May 2011, 13:35 »
Well i went BTCC yesterday and really got the urge to wana go on a track.. Just read the golfgti championship site.. and the rules seem simple enough.. 90% standard 8v or 16v.. extinguisher.. 6 point roll cage.. harness etc etc.. all which can be done relatively cheaply from what i gather..

I love the mk2 and want another to just chuck around on a track.. but realisticly how much is this likely to cost to get a car to this spec ??

Any info much appreciated...

Buy something that's close on the spec and then sort it so it conforms.

This will be a lot cheaper than building something ground-up.

Is the Golf3 cup still on?  Might be the better one to enter - more cars about to choose from these days.

It'd be the one I'd go for, purely on the basis of accessibility.  Factor in that the engine development tricks in Golf2 series might not be quite as fully developed as in the Golf3 series.  You're more likely to build a competitive car, rather than being a tail-end Charlie.

Only when there's the likely posibility of the glorious destruction of the Golf3 in question.
