My golf under heavy braking pulls left all the time, never failed an MOT, tracking new tires, pads, bled system with higher boiling point, goodridge hoses etc, caliper has been checked and geometry tested yet it still slightly pulls left under heavy braking. Maybe its just normal?

I'm sure with enough complaining they can drop the time wrongly diagnosing the fault. I can't see how a 35% balance issue can just dissapear though unless the machine or operator is at fault......

Where all my moneys went.

I have never noticed it with mine, however it showed up on the mot brake tester.

I will find out more in the morning.

It has not, it was 36%, the new caliper got it down to 31%, a good road test and some small problem they found (god knows what, sticking valve somewhere I think) got it down to 22% mot allows 25% difference so it passed.

He suspects that the discs and pads are poor / cheaper quality and causing the remaining issue but no way on this earth am I going to bin a set of discs/pads with lees than 4000 miles on them.

Well it took a while and a few phone calls but we have reached an agreement on the bill.

The total would have been over £500  however I am paying £275.72 all in with vat and the mot

So all in that is another £374.72 I have spent including the caliper I did not need, however I should be able to sell the old one all ok.

A main dealer mechanic in my experience is less mechanically minded than a proper mechanic!

Most of the time if a computer can't tell them whats wrong then they have to look it up or just change parts at will as it's you that's paying.

If a car doesn't have warranty, either fix it yourself or build a good relationship with a decent mechanic or garage.

I have had nothing but poor service and extortionate pricing from dealer garages.

I have had nothing but quality and informative service with fair pricing from my local trusted garage.

Sound advice Shaun however the local garage I use and trust were so picky with the Picasso last year I was not willing to risk it again.

You live and learn I guess so it is something to think about for the future.

Well having done 60 miles over the weekend all seems ok, does not pull to the right anymore.

Going to try and fit the poly dogbone bush this week.

Done lots of little jobs this morning.

Painted the new front brake caliper
Replaced 3 small vac / boost hoses (thanks to Dom for the main one I needed)
Cleaned the interior

Next up Dogbone Bushes.

Old ones

New Poly ones fitted.

What a difference, it is harsher at idle but gearchange is so much better.

Next up extra gauges which if I am honest did not go well  had oil temp and pressure to fit but could not remove the spare plug port on the filter housing, did not want to give it any more force in case it ended in tears, so fitted the boost gauge for now but I am going to move it as you cannot really see where it is mounted, so did not bother to wire up the lighting.

But all in all it was nice to sort lots of little jobs that I have been putting off.
