Bad mpg ? Causes
« on: 30 April 2011, 14:13 »
Right so I put £20 of 95ron fuel in (15L) and get around 100 miles int 1.4 8v is that about right ?

Also is there any common problems with the fuel gauges because at times it drastically drops right down to empty then goes back up after a few miles ?

well thats around 34 miles to the gallon which doesnt seem too bad depending on how your driving

I havnt done much driving in my golf 1.4 but my astra 1.4 averages 30-35 most of the time... but i dont drive that economically
If i keep my foot to the floor it will go down into the 20's

Tbh that's about what I got in my 1.4. I found that it was mainly because you have to thrash it just to keep up with the general flow of traffic.

In terms of regular day to day driving my Gti gives me about the same fuel consumption as my 1.4 did, simply because you don't have to drive it as hard.

Yeah, sounds about right. My old 1.8 GL saw me about 50 miles per £10 so I'd say it's okay.

Sounds like it is running rich, would be worth replacing the temp sender as a 1st step.
