Not too much grease mind, in fact bearings normaly come with a small sachet which is more than enough.

This ^

OK thought I needed loads, the old ones are swimming in it!

A little goes a long way

Its quite nice having it all over your hands but for gods sake wear latex gloves!

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Yer these didn't come with nothing  :rolleyes:I ordered a big tub of it off ebay anyway, just use the old lube, looked pretty fresh anyway for the disc I have got, managed to hit them in with a hammer and inch pole.

All done, but the pads are rubbing on my discs, do I need to push back the piston as far back as it will go?

you will need to push the pistons all the way back when fitting new pads to new discs.
Make sure you take the cap off the fluid res on the Master cylinder when pushing back the pistons.
Blead the calipers as well, the rear brakes can get a bit sticky on Mk2/3 golfs.

they need pushing and turning on mk2s and mk3s

a g-clamp will suffice or a big pair of grips. a bit pikey but will do the job!
