Poor radio reception
« on: 29 April 2011, 08:55 »
I get no mw and only  a few strong stations on fm with my kenwood.

There is an inline aerial amp fitted and I've checked that the power lead is ok.

Tried removing aerial amp and connecting direct to the aerial and reception is the same which suggested to me that the amp was faulty so I bought a new one but it's just the same.

The aerial is definitely ok because there is no reception at all when it's disconnected.

Seems unlikely to me that both amps would be faulty. Are Kenwood's known for poor radio reception? Any ideas? Thanks

connect it to the remote wire on your harness, so it turns on with the ignition.

connect it to the remote wire on your harness, so it turns on with the ignition.

Is that the remote wire which you would use to tell your amplifier to turn on?

My tuner did not work and I ripped the roof lining out to find that there was nothing plugged into the aerial so was gonna stick on one of those sticker aerials, but this morning I was having my windscreen replaced and found the aerial wire in the a pillar all nicely wrapped up so fed it through the roof lining and plugged it back into the aerial

The only thing is the radio sounded crackly so I think I need an amplifier thing as the aerial is just plugged into the back of a kenwood unit.

Am I right in saying I need the amplifier wire?

yea... the same one that send the signal to the amps etc to turn them on and off with the stereo.

I had my pioneer stereo stolen and was wired in via the remote lead and all was fine.... However, just bought a new pioneer stereo and hooked it all up the same via the same remote lead in the harness and the amps stayed on when the stereo was off, so, switched the connection to the yellow and red stripe wire which turns on with the cars ignition. All is well and working now.
