Revo my Mkv GTi or buy an Ed30 or R32.
« on: 28 April 2011, 19:41 »
Dilemma....

I am bored of my GTi at the min. Its an 05 GTi manual. I have been considering my options and have only a few.

First option is to revo stage1 my car which will take bhp to 255 and torque to 280 (claimed) for around £700 with uprated dv.

Or I could add 5-6k to mine and get either an 06 reg R32 or 07-08 reg ed30.

I know the second option is expensive but those cars should retain value better. I have been offered 7-7.5 for my car. Seems low to me.

Any ideas or thoughts on these options?

Simon

we have the normal GTi (2006)

the 200ps version has 280nm torque as std - with map 250 bhp and approx 360nm torque
which is quite a considerable change.

the r32 will not get you any more performance and will hit your pocket in running costs
but will sound nice and give you 4motion.

ed30 is nice option but for the cost of a remap your current car will be transformed. The DV is worth changing
but so far ours is running std one with viezu fast road map and other than a PCV bypass
she's oem. Pulling like a train and still returning 32mpg

depends how flush you are with the cash!
full milltek cat back, carbonio air intake and a stage 2 remap on a std gti could see you above 260bhp all for under 2k!

If you can afford to run R32 then just get it , its an awsome motor looks better, sounds better, grip is brilliant. Only downside expect high petrol bills, but then again so is the Ed30 there is really not very much in it as far as bills go

£700? Are you hallucinating?

Uprated DV ~ £40
Installation - probably around 30 mins labour (but imagine you'll be charged one hour) ~ £60-80
Revo stage 1 - go to GTI international and get it done for no VAT. Works out to around £450 (or at least that's what I got mine done for last year).
So you're looking at aroud £550 for stage 1.

Personally, I'd recommend going to Stage 1 and then seeing how you feel. Most bang for your buck.
Edition 30/Pirelli - slight lower rev range lag and the power is really only shown at the higher rev ranges.
R32 - if you can afford the costs, but also £££ to make it go faster. ED30 will beat it in a straight line, though not round corners (esp if wet).

we are running a viezu fast road map. std DV - map cost £100+ vat since i have a self tuning unit

car is very quick and especially in the mid range where it needs it most. still get 32mpg too.
