Headunit not working when engine is on
« on: 27 April 2011, 21:53 »
I just installed my headunit and it works fine with the ignition on, but it won't work when the engine is on. What is the cause of this? Cheers all.

You'll need to multimeter the power wires buddy.

I have found a temporary solution for now and have connected the ignition feed to the permanent live feed, my ignition barrel is a bit foobard, so until I can get that replaced this will have to do. Shame I jar to turn the radio off manually each time.

Just thinking the same, if it fails miles from home you could end stuck

Are you aware that the risk could be a let more serious, if it burns out you could damage wiring.

Well basically, the problem is that when I turn the key, I have to push up with the key to start the engine, so it's a barrel problem, not a switch problem?

Well mine was the same and it ended up wearing out the switch as well.

Shady i had exactly the same problem a while back. apparrently so i was told the iso leads in mk3 vws (maybe all vws not sure) have the perm live and sw live back to front to its having the opposite effect when swiching the ignition into aftermaket headunits. in the back of your headunit there should be a fuse look at where its plugged in and either above or below it you might find an extra socket. mine had it and said vw next to it. re locate it into the vw bit and you should be done.

if not youll have to get a multi meter out and switch the wires.
