Advice on upgraded my current ICE setup
« on: 26 April 2011, 21:43 »
As I have just got the Anni, no sounds are installed on it, so I'm going to put in my sounds from the valver. This consists of Infinity Components up front (capable of 100W RMS), and Infinity sub capable of 300W RMS (I think) and a JBL 4 channel amp which powers it all.

Now I do like this system but I'd like to add a bit more power, so would I be right in thinking I can get more power out of the 4 channel amp by running it as a 2 channel for the components, and then getting a mono amp for the sub?

Also, I only have 8AWG wiring, would it be worthwhile me adding a thicker cable in such as 2 or 4 to then not have to worry when I do get around to buying a new mono amp? I'd like to keep the 4 channel and run the mono amp alongside it. Would I simply split the power feed cable into two once routed through the car?

Sorry for all the questions.

What are the specs of your amp? What power output does it put out bridged at 4ohm? Also what HU do you have? How many outputs does it have?

If you go for a 600w mono you could get away with a 4awg power cable. Run this from battery to a fused distribution block in the back then run a seperate power cable from this to the amps.

Remote turn on for amps you can just daisy chain from amp to amp. That'll be fine on just 2 amps.

If you want more than say 1000w sub I'd recommend a bigish battery under the bonnet and 2 or 0awg.

I also recommend using the same size cable for major engine power cables as the run from battery to amps.

Thanks for the input good sir.

The amp is a JBL GTO 1004E running 100W RMS at 4ohm over 4 channels, so I imagine bridged would be more:

Not sure of other spec as I haven't had a proper good look at it but I believe the are a couple of outputs to facilitate an additional amp. My headunit is an Alpine 9880R which has 3 pre-outs, one of which is dedicated to a sub.

So ideally, if I have this correct, if I buy a 4AWG power and ground cable to put in now when I put in my current set up, once I buy a mono amp I should in theory just be able to hook it up along with a power cable splitter? I will also route another RCA cable as well to be read for when I install the new amp.

Is this right?

Yeah pretty much.

Amp specs are.

100x4 at 4ohm or
225x2 at 4ohm.

If I were you I wouldn't bother bridging it. Just use 2 of the 4 channels to give 2x100.

Would match your current amp. Would look nice installed next to each other.

Will do chap. I installed my current set up in both my GL and my old valver, want to be careful with the Anni though, but to get the wiring right first time, at least I won't need to mess around a second/third/fourth time.

B-chi, could you recommend a good 4AWG wiring kit? Preferably around the £30-40 mark please?
