I guess Tiff Needell and Jason Plato would't agree with you on this one

How would they do handbrake turns in a DSG GTi ?  :grin:

It would be good to have it switchable - on or off  :smiley:

reply from VW, apparently I have an electronic handbrake!

Thank you for your recent contact regarding your Volkswagen Golf. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my repsonse.

Your Volkswagen Golf is fitted with the Hill Hold function as standard equipment.
This function prevents your car from rolling back when pulling away on a give way slope or during a hill start. The Hill Hold
operates for approximately two seconds. It is linked to the electronic handbrake system in your vehicle and works regardless of
whether the vehicle is in gear or not.
Volkswagen constantly reviews and improves our products, usually on the basis of customer suggestion. As such, I have forwarded
your email to our Marketing Department so that your comments can be included in this process.

I apologise that I am unable to be of any further assistance on this occasion.

Have a read of your cars handbook you may have hillhold on your car. You don't need the electronic handbrake to have hillhold i think thats just the call centre person that there outsourced too getting confused. EDIT: Just checked hillhold is on all models now. Have a read of your handbook to find out how to operate it correctly.

I agree, mine has hill hold and the normal handbrake. Hill hold is std on MY11 cars

Yes mine has hill start, which I knew it would have. ( to be honest I would have expected any auto to have) My Smart Roadster had it when I bought it in 2007. Its the fact that the handbrake is not connected in any way I find a puzzle.

Thank you for your most recent contact with regards to your Volkswagen Golf DSG. Once again, my apologies for the delay in my
response.

Your vehicle is fitted the hill hold function which is characteristic of the vehicle "pulling" against the handbrake as you have
experienced. If however you feel there is a fault with the DSG and hill hold function, I would recommend that you contact your
local Volkswagen retailer who will be more than happy to assist you in diagnosing the fault and offering a repair solution if
neccesary.

Volkswagen appoint a network of centres throughout the United Kingdom who are best equipped to answer and resolve any queries of
this nature, all of these centres have access to a dedicated Technical Department who can offer them additional support if
necessary.
