Not a problem for me, just knock it into neutral as said above,
i never use the handbake at traffic lights etc, usually sit with foot rested on the brake and in neutral, slip back into D when ready and away you go

+1
Pet hate of mine and why i often have a head acre by the time i get home on a night because of lazy people not using the handbrake and so not thinking about the poor sod behind them they are blinding!!!!

100% with you.
The worst offenders are in Jaguar XKs. The brake lights are blinding.

Me too. Can't stand the drivers that sit with their foot on the brakes. Jeeps especially as it is more or less right at eye level. Dusk for me makes it even worse.

This is exactly the problem I am complaining about. yes you can "knock it into neutral" as suggested but that's a cop out and not really the answer because you might as well have a clutch and a manual if you have to keep doing that.

Shouldn't the title of this thread be 'Major error by car buyer who didnt check what he was buying'?.

i was genuinely expecting to see a story about VW making a 'major error' its very mis-leading....
GTD White 5dr, ACC, Sunroof, winter pack, in transit.......

Actually there was no models of this type to test drive from VW in the country from late November till I took delivery, so no I could not check what I was buying anyway.
Plus it is a major fault as far as I am concerned.

FROM DRIVING INSTRUCTION HAND BOOK

WHEN TO USE HANDBRAKE
1. When emerging at a T junction to turn right and you are waiting for a very long queue of traffic, use the handbrake to secure the car so that you don't creep into the junction before it is safe, but more importantly if someone hits you from behind your reflex might make you take your foot off the brake and you are pushed into the path of vehicles in the junction.

2. When you stop for pedestrians at a crossing (zebra, pelican, toucan), use the handbrake to secure your automatic car to protect the people crossing in front of your vehicle.

Oh well stuck with it now.......

34 sets of traffic lights on my commute home it has an effect. Your bling LEDs may look good to you but been stuck behind them when there on full at traffic lights is not a nice experience for the person behind you.
