Adding electric mirrors?
« on: 08 September 2003, 11:27 »
Has anyone added electric mirrors to their Golf?

I have an 8v without e/m and was wondering if these was an easy enough conversion.

Does anyone know what parts I would need except the mirror and the switch? I'm assuming I could get these from a breakers if I was lucky!

Never tried it myself, but if you can find a donor car at a scrapyard, I can't imagine it being massively difficult

Try this:

Let us know how you get on, and prices too!!

After reading this it looks like I would have to try to find a door card that previously has electric mirrors for it to look standard.

A nice idea but maybe I will leave it.

If anyone has any pics of the layout of an original electric mirror interior card I would be interested to see them.

it's a piece of piss to fit leccy mirrors.

Go buy some leccy mirrors from a VW scrappy - <150 quid nowadays.

You put a leccy window gromet on the N/side - and the mirror controller fits PERFECTLY thru the gap on the O/Side.

The wiring is simple - Mk2's had this as an option.

If you search the web - someone has posted a 'how to'

If you need any help with wiring let me know as I have leccy mirrors on my car.

As far as I know the loom just plugs into the fuse box, you have, as said above, a gromet on the passenger side and a switch on the drivers side.

I did see the mirrors and loom complete on ebay recently so check that out.

pork pie

the switch goes in the same hole that your manual adjuster goes.

If the loom is uncut then i think you can plug it straight in the back of the fuse box. The brown wire goes on one of the earth sockets under the drivers dash tray area.

I just tapped the red wire into an ignition live (red/black) I think it was?

IIRC the yellow and black go to the rear window demister switch.

its been a while since ive fitted mine so im abit :undecided:

a pic would really help to be honest, would it be to much to ask if you could take one for me?  i dont have a red wire with my set up, i have green/white with a round plug, and one plug cut off, a yellow/black wire with two plugs, 1 male and 1 female. and i have the brown earth, which has been cut....
