I Want to buy a Golf

Drives: Audi A3 1.8Turbo  Hi i want to buy a Golf MK2 GTI 16v
I have a 99 A3 1.8Turbo at the min and want to sell this o r part-ex it against a GTI.

Is there anything i should know first about them?
anything to look for?
Also are they reliable, i wont be using it a lot, two nights a week then my weekend driving, will it be reliable for this??

Think there is a buying guide in the FAQ dude

They are reliable if they have been looked after but as with any 20yr old car check the service history but in the buying guide it coveres all the things you should look out for and check

Repair is a strong word but be prepared to keep it well maintained.. Old Golfs love TLC to keep them sweet.  But, if you're handy with basic maintenance it's no bother.

how long is a bit of string? . . . .

there are so many different things that can go wrong as with any car,

i cant view the add, but does it say FSH? If it has i would check to see when things like, cambelt, waterpump, starter motor etc have been changed

If they are looked after and serviced right they are great fun but as ive found be prepared to fix alot of things, not too expensive but sh!t goes wrong!

if you like the car just working and beign fine keep the audi, if you want a mkii be prepared to spend some money on wither a mint one or one that you will need to replace things on

again its a 20yr old car

I concur, nothing but hassle, but you get hooked, plus petrol prices will be 2 quid a litre by the end of the year!
