New power for my headunit??
« on: 07 April 2011, 13:13 »
Somehow whilst trying to fit an aerial amplifier I have lost the power to my headunit?! Firstly I noticed it had gone with the ignition on but when I turned it off the stereo came on? My mechanic has told me to take power from somewhere else. Has anyone got any ideas as to where from though or any other fixes?

 Thanks in advance, Matt

Had a similar problem with mine a long time back!
Think all we did was swap the live and remote wires. Just means HU is permanently live.

It's not even coming on when the ignitions off now, it does make a noise like the cd's ejecting but no lights or owt?

sounds like you ignition live might be knackered. Get a multimeter on the ignition feed and if its 0 V, theres your answer.

Temp measure would be wire it up permanently - attach red and yellow wires to permanent live.

Proper fix would be new ignition switch

Might have to take a new wire direct from the battery then or from the fuse box.

No, checked the fuses first thing. I put a another stereo on without the adaptor for the stereo that I use normally and swapped the wires like you said, that gave me power with my ignition off. But it goes off when I turn it on and /or remove the key. So when I managed to do this I put the adaptor back on with my normal stereo and nothing!!! Not even when the ignition is off! Can I just steal power from something else at the fuse box? And if so what do you recons best and how's best to do it. Again thanks for your help :)
