Exactly how many times will you have to explain what the '35' on the seats means to passengers??

Otherwise I like the seats though, all the advantages of leather (nice look and feel) without the problem of being sweaty, too hot or too cold.

235bhp - boring.

I'm still not feeling the 'vxr style wheels on the CW car. I much prefer the black wheels on the red ED35.

Looks like it from here as well.

Looks like the ED30 engine as well as you had already suspected.

Does this mean that VW don't trust their new GTI engine to go reliably to 235BHP?

The Xenons have appeared in all pictures I have seen, are they standard are is it just all the marketing shots.

In Germany the xenons are standard - hopefully they will be over here too - £1100 option if not!!!!

Interesting video from the preview, got to say that firespark red looks way better in this vid than on the photos.

See around 1.24 for the ED35

I actually quite like the red one for some odd reason, but then i have always liked metallic red cars and the colour looks  in the video.
S3 alloy arms and hubs, thats one up on the cut price golf R then
Noticed the centre grill section is now black to match the lower lip rather than metallic grey.

+1 I never thought I'd say it but the R would now be my choice over the Ed35.

The Edition 30 I thought was gorgeous. The wheels suited the car and the styling (inside and out) was both subtle but very effective. The Edition 30 raised the profile of the already great Mk5 GTI and essentially made it perfect.

The Edition 35 doesn't do this for the Mk6. I agree with the sentiments that the wheels on the white model look vxr-ish. The wheels on the red one for me look too aftermarket.

Interior wise I'm afraid it doesn't get any better for me. Aside from the golf-ball style shifter there is nothing inside that really celebrates the GTI. The Ed30 had half leather/ half tartan seats which combined the history and image of the GTI with a touch of refinement and class. The new seats look like they are out of Halfords tbh.

235bhp seems to be the widely expected power output. I could live with that but I do feel like VW could have stepped it up a notch (seems to be the story of VW power outputs these days).

Not doing it for me... and then there is the price hike.

a) If I was buying another GTI, there is little that does it for me on the Ed35 over a standard GTI.
b)If I was spending the money that the Ed35 is likely to be, the R offers a more powerful, more classy and more stylish package IMO plus there is 4wd when you need it.

I tend to agree with Penguin's eloquent reasoning, but not about the knob. The Ed30 knob I have is much nicer.

The red one with the black wheels does it for me. It looks very nice indeed.

I wouldn't rush out and trade mine in for one thought tbo. As PenguinGTI says you might as well buy and R instead if your thinking along the lines of trading a Mk6 GTI in.

I'm not sure the ED35 will be as successful as the ED30.
