i would have thought so. 240bhp also

 We already know from ze Germans that it uses the ED30 engine with K04 - maybe with some minor updates, but until we actually look under the bonnet we'll have to wait and see

As much as I wouldn't buy one new simply because of the price, it looks great, better than the standard GTI imo.  Another sure fire way to screw over the second hand price of our cars in the future, because if I were buying used I'd get the ED35 over a standard every time.

Does this mean that VW don't trust their new GTI engine to go reliably to 235BHP?

The Xenons have appeared in all pictures I have seen, are they standard are is it just all the marketing shots.
