I can't believe you just tried to imply that the HMS MK3 is better than a MK6.

LMAO!!!!!! :D

Not sure if you read that or not...but I didn't imply that at all.

I merely stated that an old Mk3 made a 600+ mile journey with a broken engine...that you couldn't do in a Mk6. At all. Not possible.

And for all the improvements & advancements, the 16 year old Mk3 (running high lift cams, a close ratio gearbox and sticky tyres) returned the same fuel economy as VW's latest TFSI does...

So you tell me, where's the progress?

Same economy yet how much more power does the MK6 have over it?

I do see what you are getting at with the whole broken engine thing, but thats just te way modern cars are I suppose. The fact the engine broke doesnt really help your cause though ;) :D

15 BHP.
195 BHP vs 210 BHP

The Mk3 was sitting at 4000RPM too...what does a Mk6 sit at doing 80 MPH?
3000RPM?

And with far better aerodynamics on a Mk6...where's the progress?

True...at least with a 'simple' engine and no OBD stuff to contend with, you can keep tipping oil in, keep changing plugs and drive 600+ miles with a broken engine!
Modern cars trip to the 'safe' condition of limited emissions too readily.
We would have been on a flatbed, had we taken my Mk6, not my Mk3 and it had broken.

lol that's so true.... been paying for new car loans every 3 since I can remember now. Would have paid the mortgage off now if I owned an old mk3 banger

But you would have probably paid the mortgage off in half the time, meaning that you would be buying your GTI's with cash by now.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
