Oh, what a predictable answer. Typical.

I knew that'd provoke a response   All I'll say is that I'm happy in my little world!

Alex - I know what you mean re prices but with the price of Diesel v Petrol these days the benefits are less £ and more on the driving chracteristics than ever before.

I agree that the GTI is more iconic and the petrol car has more of a sporty chracteristic. But we are talking about a young guy trying to get insurance on a GTI and on this occasion i think the GTD would be easier on the pocket in regards to insurance. I was only £450 for a year at 25K per annum. Its not about whats the best car, its about whats the best car for the OP.

I was having an afternoon nap with my bedroom window open. I was unceremoniously woken up by unholy engine noise. At first, I thought it was a black cab. I looked out of the window and it was that black 2010 GTD.

I'm 23 (24 in june)

have 5 years NCB

8 points on my licence  :lipsrsealed:

for the sake of the paperwork of the insurance company my insurance looks as though it costs £1522.00 per annum
But actually works out at just over £600 through bigger discounts on other insurances all with the same company.

I specced as many of the most useful extras to the car to me as i could afford, i think this is the best method.
And get one ordered/bought.

If insurance is an issue i would go for a GTD if i was you. I bought one after trading in my Focus RS and tbh when it loosened up it was just as fast in gear as my previous 2 litre TFSI TT.

Oh, and to the OP. If you're young and can afford a stupidly overpriced brand new Golf GTI I wouldn't worry too much about what costs what as you're obviously minted and not worried about the potential costs of living (getting married? Buying a house?) and can afford it anyway.

Unfortunately this isn't the case. You are correct with one thing, I am certainly not worried about getting married (why would I do something like that!?), however I am considering buying a house in between the next 3-5 years and this is the biggest/only reason I have yet to purchase a new GTI.

I am concerned with the price of everything, including insurance (managed to get it at £1600 for me and my partner), I'm 21 with 1 years NCB, I've been driving four years. I know this price would be considerably cheaper if I multi-car with Admrial (done this a few times with previous cars and more than halved the price, as another poster has mentioned).

To sum up I am far from minted, but my overheads are insignificant (parents do not charge me rent), and I am grateful for this. So any money I make I keep.

I have no reason to get a new one other than wishing to buy a car with warranty & guarantee. If I could not afford this, I would be more than happy with purchasing a Golf Mk1 GTI, which I am quite fond of.

As for all the other helpful posts, thank you very much for the input (sorry to start a riot with the GTI - GTD fanbase, I'm sure they're both great cars :P).

Thanks again,

Wingman

Wingman,
Try putting your parents on the car also, my mum's GTI comes to £1359 with my mum and dad as named drivers, car parked on the street (thanks to AGB) and I'm 20 with 2 years no claims, although it does go down to £939 when I'm 21 :)

Hmm, interesting.
Well, I don't know your income and potential income in a few years time when you go off into the world and live on your own, so I can only give a sweeping statement.
What do your parents think of this idea? Do you have a load of money stashed away that will be used as a house deposit? You will literally bleed money when you buy your own place, so all I can suggest is that you think things through and discuss things with those involved with supporting you. The thick end of £30k is a lot to shell out if you are suddenly going to need a big deposit on a house in a couple of years time.
As for optional extras, none are essential, just go with the best deal. Most upgrades can be retro fitted if you suddenly require them apart from ACC. Being as you're 21 you won't need ACC. I haven't got it and don't miss it and I'm double your age and running on 19'' wheels. The ride is not bad for a sporty car.
