f**k my hat! I can't believe that it's actually cheaper to park a car on the road these days!!
I mean, you pay extra on your house so you can have a nice secure garage to lock you pride and joy away in, it's there out of sight of Pikey scum, not getting nuclear fall out landing on it, not in the path of drunks who decide to dance a jig on the roof, away from next door's cat who likes to jump on it and piss on the wheels, not likely to get scratched up by Billy No Mates heavy metal enthusiast teenagers who think it a good idea to vandalise peoples possessions. And yet you get a discount for parking it in the street?
What a strange world this is becoming.

Oh, and to the OP. If you're young and can afford a stupidly overpriced brand new Golf GTI I wouldn't worry too much about what costs what as you're obviously minted and not worried about the potential costs of living (getting married? Buying a house?) and can afford it anyway.
Just have a search on here for recommended dealers (comes up quite a bit) and try and find a car that's either ready for production or on its way over here already and hasn't been allocated a buyer; if you are flexible on the spec you'll probably only have to wait a very short time.
Colour wise, all of the colours the GTI is availaible in are 'okay' but none of them inspiring or beautiful so don't worry about that.

I'm off now to park my carefully hidden and cherished GTI next to a busy main road just down from a dodgy pub so I can get cheaper insurance.......

You sound like I did when I spoke to customer services about this. All the insurance company cares about is the probability of you claiming. They don't care about the value of your vehicle or the condition of it. If mine was parked in a garage, I wouldn't have had a scaffolder swipe a pole into it. The fact that I don't have a garage is not the point but it means I get hit for the cost versus the insurance company because by the time we're done with the excess, it's not worth losing the NCB. Insurance companies are a four letter word that rhymes with a type of boat.

Oh, and another thought, if you're getting it on finance or renting it via a PCP you may find that rather than discount the car some dealers will discount the interest rate on the loan.
So whatever figure you are given, be it a discount on the list price or a lower interest rate you will need to do your sums to see which is the best price over the time you have the car.

Dealers get a certain amount of leeway on interest rates so haggle like hell as they get a commission on every loan they sell.

If insurance is an issue i would go for a GTD if i was you. I bought one after trading in my Focus RS and tbh when it loosened up it was just as fast in gear as my previous 2 litre TFSI TT.

I am going to shove a pole up your dirty, smelly, polluting Diesel bottoms once and for all.
First half of the pole: Go to the TDI section and sniff one another's bottoms and remain smug in deluded smog  land.
Second half of the pole: It is now going to cost more to park your Diesel dump trucks in the various London boroughs as at last it has been recognised that those foul Diesel engines give out more nasty pollutants than petrol engines. Kensington and Chelsea Council are rolling this out now and what we do in London the rest of the country follows.
Now stop p!ssing me off with your constant annoying chugging and farting.
Be gone the lot of you ASAP or I'll have to start using something even bigger to make the point.
I am not pleased.

Power delivery. Our leon PD130 feels quicker than the mk6 GTI but its not. Its due to the GTI having a much much smoother power delivery.

In gear 30-50, 50-70, is near enough the same within a few tenths for the GTD170CR and the GTI210

Looking at prices in the forecourt today, I believe that GTD stands for Grossly Taxed Diesel.
