Top shock mount
« on: 16 March 2005, 14:47 »
Just been told by my local tyre place that one is totally knackered when they were doing my tracking.

How much is a new one? ANyone know the part number? Is it easy to do and do I need to do both sides at once?

Answers asap please folks I'm doing a 500 mile round trip at the weekend I think I need to fix this before I go which leaves me tomorrow night!

its just the bearings in the front top suspension mounts that have gone

better off changing both at once, cost roughly ?10 each. just go to EuroCarParts or GSF and ask for 2 top mounts for your year & model

people harp on about getting G60 items etc as they are harder wearing. but the fact that yours is a stock 8v i wouldnt worry

Cheers Gambit,

I've ordered one for now as I'm skint and I'll do the other side after payday.

Do I need a spring compresser to do it? Haven't got my haynes here at work and if I need one I need to pick one up on the way home.

Cheers,

Nick

You do need spring compressors to do it, unless you don't mind getting a face full of spring and top mount when you take it apart

You also need to replace the top nuts under the plastic spring caps, as these are the self locking type.  Oh and make sure you do the top mounts at the same time, this isn't a job you want to be doing twice :)

Right got a spring compressers and ordered the "kit" from GSF and I've twisted a mates arm to get him to give me hand. Roll on tomorrow night and the injuries!

Have a look at link on my signature, then look in the how to section.
That should give you a pretty good idea what you need to do.
You will also need a slotted nut tool to dismantle the front suspension.

Jonny, what do you mean, "make sure you do the top mounts at the same time"?

I thought the top shock mounts were the top mounts?

I am going to do my top mounts soon. what are the top shock mounts then?

Cheers!

Chris.

Aaaarrggghhhhhh PANIC!

Can someone please tell me where to get and who makes the slotted nut remover? I need one today as without it I can't go oooop north to visit the missus this weekend. That means no nookie and I can't fix her mini. You can see my problem here yeah?

Many thanks guys,

Nick
