Heat shield rattle....

Hey guys my heat sheild rattles when i pull off or accelerate, is it safe to take it off or can it be screwed back in place or is a new one needed??

Depends if its on the bulk head or under the car, not sure what car you have, but most are held on by circular metal clip buttons usually they rot and fall off or the stalk holder is rusted to bits! The last time VAG charged me for those clips it was like £2.00 a clip and I ordered about four of them. Did the lot at the time. Bulk head ones have a plastic ones that hold the brake pipes at the bottom I would not recomend taking that one off as manifold pipes (16V) can cook your wiring loom!

sorry forgot to mention its the 8v gti, it sounds like its from the rear of the car.

Ok just check if you can see a stalk or stub left? If you do then you need item 17 on this website I'm sure I have the correct part number somewhere?

Check the condition of the rubber exaust hangers as they could be finished and its that banging on the tunnel?

I will order new exhaust rubber and also get the heat shield fitted :-)

Anyone know if they do new exhaust underbody heat shields. When taking mine off to do the gear linkage it just literally disintegrated
