MY MBP is running 4GB.

Shady, use Spaces for different apps, makes switching between them soooo much easier.

Nick

I've never really utilised Spaces, again, something I should try.

Stink, if you got the 13" MacBook Pro from the new line up, they are twice as fast as last year's MacBook Pro 13" model. My 15" 2.0GHz i7 is faster than most of the current range of Mac Pros!  Even though the new i5's used in the 13" are dual-core, they are still extremely fast, but I would advise a 15" quad-core if you can afford it, and upgrade to a  high-res screen as well. :afro:

Mine is just a 'Macbook' but if I wanted to upgrade would apple take my macbook as 'part exchange etc' I guess the only other thing is how i would go about transfering all the programs over etc

As Horney just said, eBay will see a good return on your MacBook, and just backup using Time Machine and on the new Mac you'd have the option to restore from Time Machine backup, that's what I did moving from my iMac to my MacBook Pro. :afro:

This is the thing, I wouldn't upgrade unless you needed to. I didn't want a desktop anymore so I sold the iMac for the MacBook Pro. If your machine works for what you do then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Upgrading the RAM would be worthwhile though, and even an SSD but they are expensive.

+1

Regardless if you're running a mac a dell or a custom built desktop, each of our needs on here are different; even when it comes to a machine for photography the requirements can vary so much depending on what apps you're using.

The most important factor for working with images IMO is the screen.

Nail and head dude. I only bought my MBP this year because my old iBook was 7 years old and was really starting to struggle for my uses. My mate bought it and he's using it for Amiga emulation and a few othe rbits and he reckons he'll get another 5 years out of it!

I'm hoping my current MBP can manage 5 years before I need to replace it.

If you consider how long your old one lasted and the spec if had, I'd imagine you'll find your new one last at least 5 years.

Personally I wish to keep mine for 4/5 years before selling on, which I feel is a sufficient time to keep it to then upgrade to keep up with the tech at the time.
