Is it worth putting a Polo Mk3 Gt engine in mk2?
« on: 16 March 2011, 20:01 »
Getting a 1.3 that will I know be dog slow, but I don't want insurance costs for a GTI or tax for that matter. Would it be worth sticking in the GT MPI engine out of the mk3 Polo and then maybe making that 1.4 at a later date or even the 16v 1.4?

Ah ok sorry was reading it backwards. I would say possibly bore the 1.3 to a 1.4, give her a good tune up and slap on some high lift cams. You will have a nippy little whip then

Don't think the gains would make it worthwhile tbh.

Yes but all that work for what 10bhp (ish) plus your insurance will still go up.

If you want your mk2 1.3 to be faster, best bet, is'nt to buy a polo GT engine, but to buy a writen off/scrapped mk3 GTI, then swap it all over, and sell the shell of the mk3 to a scrappy for £100.

I have a mk2 1.3. But I didnt do this, I just built a nicely spec'd driver engine, plonked it in, sorted my sus/brakes/chassis, then went racing

As fast  as an 8vgti ;)

A 1.8 is not the greatest, a 16v or VR might change your viewpoint.
