I fail to see the point in this. The base car is slow and the donor engine is slow - Why bother?

more reliable than a crappy carbed 1.3 thats why

I did also say I may put in the 16v 1.4

I'm no spring chicken so insurance isnt dear but I don't want the petrol costs or tax costs of a larger engine

Larger engines don't always = more fuel costs as they tend to be working less hard so can in some cases be better on fuel

The cost and time and effort involved in doing the swap, for lets face it, very little gain, would pay for a lot of fuel to run a more powerfull engined car.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

A mk3? Im selling my 1.8. I hate mk3 and everything about them lol

Read again what I wrote. Swap everything from the mk3 GTI to the mk2 1.3. the gains would be very impressive, fair enough, you dont like it, but not only does it have good reliable power, 8 or 16, but it weights about 300-400 KG more than the mk2 1.3 !!!!

If you just buy an engine you will be back and forth to the scrappy  for ever, as the 1.3 has not just a differnt engine, but differnt gearbox, driveshafts, gear linkage, engine mounts, radiator, list goes on and on.

And , excuse me if im wrong, but as mentioned before, the gains of replacing your 1.3 (mine was extremmly reliable) to a FI 1.4 gt polo engine,  will be 25hp !!!!!

You gain more buy removing all seats, spare wheel, sunroof, headliner, door cards, rear wiper, etc etc
