FFS!! I shouldnt be aloud near cars!
« on: 13 March 2011, 10:55 »
So had a few more things to change mainly the dizzy and rotar arm and ignition leads

So replaced them all and then when i went to start the car nothing then a bit of a pop so im assuming that's a misfire and a spark pluh has gone? would this be down to putting the ignition leads on in the wrong order?

Sounds like it... Could also be that you have put the Dist cap on wrong...

Get the haynes manual out!!

just had a read through the haynes and the only thing i can think of is that the HT leads are connected in the wrong bloody firing order

so after a quick search if read that the order is 1342

now on the dizzy which one way does it go? and which lead is 1 is it the one closest the oil cap  :embarassed:

Easy mistake to make fella. I always number my leads (Blobs of tippex,1 on ead 1, 2 blobs on lead 2 etc) and then change one lead at a time and then change the dizzy cap.

Anyhoo Haynes should tell you how to do it but it's quite simple.

Take out spark plug 1 (Nearest the airbox) And stick a chopstick down the hole. Rock the car back forth in 1st gear by pulling on the slam panel until the chopstick reaches the highest point. You've now roughly found Top Dead Centre for Number 1 cyclinder. Pop the dizzy cap off and you should see the rotor arm will be roughly pointing at one of the leads. That lead should be connected to plug number one. You then have a starting point to work out the rest of the leads :o)

i havent got a spark plug tool :(  or is it just a specific wrnech and extention?

dont know if it was just me but there was a strong smell of fuel at the back of the car, would this be due to it misfiring?

thats cos the pistons are full of fuel thats not e getting ignited in the correct order...

There's no point putting new leads on and not fitting new plugs... get a tool and new plugs fitted..
